Scared That I Might Need Surgery

I've had spinal surgery, I was utterly petrified. I've been on pain medication and have to do physiotherapy every day. I do get soreness behind my shoulders when I stand for to long but working progress. Everything that your feeling about surgery is ok, it's an absolute petrifying thing. We are here for you!!

I'm about to have my surgery in a couple weeks so hopefully mine goes well! I trust my doctor & since I have most of summer left, I can focus on recovery. I'm less scared than I was bc once it's done, it's done, and then I'm good for life! <3

Hey hey!

Idk if my fellow bracers feel this but I feel like my brace won’t work. What if I need surgery? I just don’t understand how I’m supposed to trust the most important bone in my body with a plastic corset.

Also, because of my moderate curve. The doctor is suspicious that something is causing my shooting pain in my spine. I’m scared I’m going to need surgery for that too. Most things other than scoliosis with the spine needs surgery to be fixed.

I would appreciate some good bracing stories as well as people who have had spinal surgery. I would love any advice.

HI! When i first got my brace i was little (6 years old almost 7!) although i dont remember much of it i was kind of excited not exactly sure why!? But soon i learned how much it sucks. Once i got used to my brace i was pretty good at wearing it. But with time learning and understanding more about scoliosis the doubt came more into play. I got through elementary school pretty easily with my brace it had been basically my whole life, but when i got to middle school i started worrying more about surgery although my curves were pretty stable. I started wearing my brace less when i got older i had more actives going on and moe push back to wearing it. All through middle school my curves stayed pretty stable with slight increases that tended to come and go from appointment to appointment. But basically I started thinking “working this hard to wear my brace for this many years and still having a chance of having surgery” “why am i putting myself through this” But by the end of the day i realized my brace is working my curves are well below surgery level, i did recently get released from wearing my brace (yay!still wearing at night though) new fears do come with that but what can you do? You just have to live in the moment control what you can control and just enjoy life! Everything happens for a reason and you with be stronger through everything that comes your way! Through the confusing way i told my story all i can really say it try and let it be i know its insanely hard to not think about those things but you will feel so much better if you dont think about it trust me! we are all her for you whenever you need anything! Also yes there are tons of treatment options maybe one of those would work for you, you never know! YOU GOT THIS!!
